Standard Materials has been producing and providing Ready-Mix Concrete for over two-thirds of a century in the New Orleans Northshore market. It is the longest continuously operating concrete producer in this area, having been founded by Robert L. Scogin, Sr. in Slidell, Louisiana in 1953. In 1958, upon Mr. Scogin's death, ownership passed to his brother, V.J. "Red" Scogin. For the next 45 years, "Red" Scogin worked to make Standard Materials a fixture of the Northshore's construction and business landscape.

After "Red" Scogin passed away in 1995, the business was owned and operated by two of his nephews: Bren C. Bishop and Robert L. "Bob" Scogin, Jr. They grew Standard’s footprint to include the Mandeville/Covington and Hammond, Louisiana markets. They also invested in all-new production facilities at each of the three Ready-Mix plant locations.

In 2020, Bren and Bob sold their interests in Standard Materials to the similarly family-run Ready-Mix Concrete producer, Huey P. Stockstill, LLC in nearby Picayune, Mississippi. The Stockstill family has been servicing south Mississippi and Louisiana for over 50 years. Huey Stockstill Sr. started a construction company in Picayune, Mississippi in the 1960s. At that time, Huey Sr. had only a handful of employees and one dump truck.

Over the past 5 decades, the company has grown to over 200 employees, 3 asphalt plants, 5 ready mix plants, 2 aggregate mining operations and a modernized fleet of equipment and trucks.

In 2015, Huey Stockstill Inc. joined the Dunn family of companies. This opportunity gave our company even more financial resources and dedicated knowledge needed to continue growing and improving the quality of our service. We renamed the company Huey P. Stockstill, LLC in memory of our founder. Today, the company is owned by Huey Stockstill Jr. and it is operated by him and his son Huey Stockstill III.

A lot has changed over the years, but what hasn’t changed is how we run our business. Huey Sr. built the company on the foundation of doing the right thing. He instilled in us the importance of integrity, honesty, and hard work. That’s why our HPS motto is “Where a handshake still has meaning.”
